Jabra’s noise-canceling Elite 5 are on sale for 40 percent off right now

At this point, it’s safe to say that Jabra makes some of the most reliable earbuds you can buy, especially for the price. The Jabra Elite 5, like the company’s prior midrange models, are good example of a pair that checks all the right boxes, offering up ANC, multipoint, and a host of other welcome features at a competitive price point. And now, thanks to a $60 discount from Amazon and Jabra, you can grab them for a mere $89.99, which nearly matches their second-best price to date.

We’ve long considered the Jabra Elite 3 one of the best pairs of sub-$100 earbuds you could buy, though, at the current price, I’d argue the Elite 5 are the better value. The comfy, teardrop-shaped buds don’t excel at any one thing but rather offer a laundry list of features for a budget-friendly price. This includes IP55 dust and water resistance, seven hours of continuous playback with ANC turned on, and support for aptX, AAC, and SBC codecs. Given their price, their noise cancellation isn’t going to rival what you might get from a pair of Bose or Sony earbuds, but it’s effective, allowing you to tune out noisy coffee shops and light traffic with ease.

Rounding out the feature set is their support for an array of software tricks, including support for Android Fast Pair, Windows Swift Pair, Alexa, and Google Assistant. The platform-agnostic Elite 5 offer a customizable EQ as well, letting you fine-tune the bass, treble, and other sound facets to fit your podcasts or T-Swift’s latest album.

In the Friday issue of the Verge Deals newsletter, we flagged a terrific discount on the Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium, which is still on sale at Amazon and The Home Depot for $219.99 ($30 off). If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative and can forgo a few bells and whistles, however, Google’s entry-level Nest Thermostat is matching its all-time low of $89.99 ($40 off) at Amazon, Best Buy, and the Google Store.

As far as features go, the Nest Thermostat makes it easy to adjust the temperature and set your heating / cooling schedule, whether that’s via voice assistants like Alexa or the Google Home app. It also integrates with other connected devices in your home and offers smart presence-sensing features that can help you use less energy and (hopefully) save some money while you’re away. Hell, if you’re lucky, it may even be eligible for a rebate through your local energy supplier.
