Whether mom’s a bibliophile or you’re looking to gift a graduate something useful as they head to college, Amazon’s Kindles are great presents that we’ve highlighted in both our Mother’s Day and graduation gift guides this year. They’re even more attractive buys now that they’re down to their best prices of the year.
Both the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite are among our favorite e-readers for those already embedded in Amazon’s ecosystems. Each device boasts a crisp 300ppi display that is a pleasure to read on, USB-C support for relatively fast charging, and three months of Kindle Unlimited.
The tradeoff is that the Kindle features the smallest screen at six inches, which makes the 6.8-inch Paperwhite and 10.2-inch Scribe easier to read on. The Kindle Paperwhite is also the only waterproof Kindle, rendering it the better option for giftees who like to read in the bath or lounge by the pool. Meanwhile, only the Kindle Scribe can act as a notebook with an included stylus, which makes it a better gift for, say, students who like to take notes while researching for a paper — especially as it can convert handwriting into typed text.
