Elgato is launching a bigger teleprompter for presenters, podcasters, and businesses

Elgato is launching a bigger teleprompter for presenters, podcasters, and businesses

Elgato first launched a USB-C-powered teleprompter two years ago, and I was impressed with the $279.99 package. Now, it’s launching an even bigger version, the Prompter XL, that’s targeted at studio use, podcast rooms, and corporate AV setups for $599.99.

The Prompter XL has a 15.6-inch LCD display (1920 x 1080), up from the 9-inch panel (1024 x 600) found on the original Prompter. The larger size and improved resolution make it ideal for businesses running presentations or town halls, or podcasters and presenters who have a studio space.

The larger size also means the Prompter XL is compatible with DSLR and mirrorless cameras with lenses up to 22cm in length, whereas the original was limited to short or medium lenses. Webcams and smartphones can also be used with the Prompter XL, but you’ll need a third-party adapter. Elgato ships a camera bracket with the Prompter XL, along with a variety of backplates to fit various camera lens sizes.

Just like the original, the Prompter XL works with Elgato’s Camera Hub software that gives you control over the text you want to read on the teleprompter. It can automatically scroll the text as you speak, and you can pair it with a Stream Deck to control playback, too.

You could also use the Prompter XL as a secondary monitor given its size, but this larger version is a lot heavier (7.43 lbs vs. 1.52 lbs) and isn’t compatible with Elgato’s Multi Mount. It will work with most standard tripods and mounting solutions though. It also requires 15 watts of power delivery over USB-C 3.2, so you may need to power it from a hub if you don’t have a compatible USB-C port.

The Prompter XL is launching today, priced at $599.99 in the US, €599.99 in Europe, and £499.99 in the UK.
