Facebook’s redesign is making it more like Instagram

Continuing CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to make Facebook “way more culturally influential than it is today,” Meta is announcing a bunch of new updates to help you “cut through the clutter” and make content in the app.

The changes include tweaks to how you see and interact with photos in your feed that could make the experience feel a bit more like Instagram. As part of updates to make your feed “simpler and more immersive,” when you post multiple photos at once, they’ll show up in a grid, and you’ll also be able to double tap photos to like them.

The company is redesigning how you make Stories and feed posts by “putting the most popular tools like adding music and tagging friends where you can easily find them.” Search results are going to have “more content in a more immersive grid layout that supports all content types,” and Meta is testing a way to look at fullscreen photos and videos that doesn’t make you lose your place in the results.

Meta is also adding the ability to give feedback on why something in your feed may not be relevant to you. Recently, Meta has introduced ways to fine tune what you see on Instagram and Threads, and with Facebook, Meta is promising to “continue to introduce new ways for you to shape your Feed and provide your algorithm feedback in the coming months.”

There are more features covered in the blog post, too, like an updated menu design and a simplified commenting experience. Meta says its changes are “just the beginning in making Facebook less cluttered and easier to use,” with more updates coming next year.
