A funny side effect of my job is that people I meet for the first time often ask me for advice. And for whatever reason, the first question on many people’s minds is which air fryer is the best. My answer used to be somewhat complicated. Now it isn’t. The Typhur Dome 2 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is the best.
The Dome looks like a little spaceship from the Flintstones. It has a broad, flat frying basket big enough to fit a 12-inch pizza, and will give that pizza gentle char. The shape is key: it allows you to spread out a lot of wings or fries in a single layer, close but not too close to the heating elements. And yes, I used a plural there: The Typhur Dome 2 has both top and bottom heating elements, whose intensity toggles depending on the mode. So you can broil with this thing. You can bake pizza with direct heat from the bottom, and grill chicken till it’s crispy. And wonder of all wonders, there’s a self-clean setting that’ll keep grease from sticking to the funny parts of the oven. And the thermostat is accurate, a rarity among basket fryers.
The only real drawbacks are that some settings, like that nice self-clean function, require your phone app—and that the best air fryer (the Typhur) costs more money than the next-best basket air fryer, the Instant Vortex Plus.
Well, for now, on Prime Day, the math got easier. Because the Typhur Dome 2 costs a whole lot less money. Like, more than a Benjamin less. Run, don’t walk. Because another side effect of this job is that people tell me how they like (or don’t like) devices I recommend. And friends with a Typhur Dome 2 have texted me more often than you might expect, just to rave about their air fryer.
