Pinterest’s ‘tuner’ lets you dial down the amount of AI content — but not entirely

Pinterest is rolling out a tool that allows users to “dial down the AI” in their feed, the company says. Users can select which categories they want populated with more or less AI-generated content. But Pinterest stops short of promising a feed that’s completely free of AI: the tool will work only on “eligible image Pins” in categories prone to AI content, including beauty, art, fashion, and home decor.

The “tuner” tool is located in Pinterest’s settings page under “refine your recommendations” in the “GenAI interests” tab. The feature is already available to Android and desktop users, and iPhone users will get the feature in the coming weeks, the company says.

Pinterest first addressed its problem with AI infestation — Pinfestation? — in May with the rollout of an automated “AI modified” label added to the bottom left-hand corner of pins. The company says it has ramped up its detection tools and is making the labels more “noticeable” but did not release details on either update.
