Some of the stuff we actually bought during Prime Day

It’s one thing to do a bit of online shopping during Amazon’s Prime Day sales, but it’s another to put your money where your mouth is. (Where did that phrase come from, anyway?) If you’re curious, here are some of the items that staff members from The Verge bought for themselves.

My fancy Withings smart scale died on me a while back, and I’ve been looking for a cheaper replacement, as all I really want is to sync my data with Apple Health. This Eufy Scale was on sale for $39.99, down from $80, and it should sync to Apple Health through the Eufy Life app. – Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, reviewer

I’m heading to Berlin, Germany, next month for the IFA tech trade show, and my current wash bag is on its last legs. This one looks very practical, if not particularly stylish, but it’s from the same company that makes my favorite cable bag (also on sale for Prime Day). I’d had my eye on it for a while as I like the modular approach, so I was pleased to see it drop 25 percent to $45 for Prime Day. – Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, reviewer

I picked up this two-port USB-C Car Charger for $13.59 (down from $22.99) to help with my family’s currently rocky transition to USB-C charging. For some reason, the last three USB-C car chargers I’ve bought have all broken within a couple of months. I’m hoping this one can hold up a while longer. – Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, reviewer

My wife and I are having a deck built, so we’re continuing to hemorrhage money by buying accessories and furniture for our near-future backyard hangouts. We picked out a cute Igloo 11-quart cooler with a strap that should also travel well on mini family outings, and a Veradek Kona side table that hides a barrel-shaped cooler within. We’re taking a small chance on the cooler-as-furniture piece, but I have high hopes for telling friends and family how that cold beer they want is actually hidden right next to them. The suburban dad in me knows that’ll never get old. — Antonio G. Di Benedetto, laptop reviewer

There wasn’t a huge discount on this mini air pump, but I figured that I could at least save a couple of bucks by waiting to purchase it on Prime Day. This little pump will suction cup to the outside of my 10-gallon aquarium, where it will send oxygen through a tube and into the airstone at the bottom of the tank. This will (hopefully) create a gentle stream of bubbles for my small group of fish and aquatic snails. Having an air pump is supposed to help increase oxygen in the tank and circulate the water — but the chance of seeing some parasnailing is an added plus. — Emma Roth, news writer

I snatched up the four-pack of SD Gundam model kits I’ve been eyeing up, now that they’ve dropped to a new low price. It includes the GP-01-Fb, GP-02A, GP-03 Dendrobium, and Neue Ziel in cute, “super-deformed” chibi form — all from the early-90s anime Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. I’m back into building Gunpla after rewatching the original 1979 Gundam series alongside The Great Gundam Project podcast, as well as rewatching some OVAs and enjoying the recent Gundam Gquuuuuux. Call it a middling-life crisis; but instead of building WW2 Spitfire model planes like generations before me, I’m revisiting my mecha nerd roots. These little dudes may cut to the front of my backlog of builds once I finally finish my HG “Gquack.”— Antonio G. Di Benedetto, reviewer
