Threads will now automatically filter out offensive words

Just like Instagram, Threads will now automatically filter out potentially offensive words, phrases, or emoji by default. In a post on Thursday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that the new Hidden Words feature will apply to both your “Following” and “For You” feeds, along with search results, profiles, and replies to your posts.

If you want to cast a wider net over the content Threads filters out, you can add specific words, phrases, or emoji to hide by tweaking the option inside the app’s settings. Meta notes that you can turn Hidden Words on or off at any time. Instagram started letting users filter out abusive words from their comments in 2016 before extending the feature to DMs.

Additionally, Threads is testing the ability to mute notifications for interactions with your post. As shown in the image shared by Meta, you can hit the bell button in the top-right corner of a post to turn notifications on or off. The platform is also trying out a feature that will let you choose who can quote your posts. You’ll also be able to unquote yourself if you don’t want someone quoting your post.

These new features build on some of Threads’ existing controls, which let you choose who can reply to a thread as well as who can mention you in their threads, replies, or bio. The platform is also testing a new feature that will let you automatically archive your posts, allowing you to hide old content from your profile.
